Both vertical and horizontal delivery speeds of every Shuttle Vertical Lift Module (VLM) tray are fully discrete and variable to protect sensitive inventory. With a few clicks of the controls, an operator can change the delivery speed of a tray from 10% to 100% of its maximum speed. Each tray can be individually set for a different delivery speed allowing highly sensitive and durable products to be stored in the same VLM.
For extremely sensitive items, trays can be set as low as 10% of the maximum tray delivery speed. Sensitivity is demonstrated by placing a full glass of water on a tray with a delivery speed of 10%, it can then be stored and retrieved without spilling a drop. This can be seen at http://www.KardexRemstar.com/video/vlm/water/
.
The Shuttle VLM is an enclosed system of vertically arranged trays, extraction platform and computerized controls for automated retrieval of stored materials and floor space savings up to 75%. The Shuttle VLM accommodates material of varying widths and heights while providing maximum storage flexibility. It can store up to 2,000 lb. per tray with a total maximum payload of 88,000 lb.
The operator can be presented with parts and inventory at maximum speeds minimizing wasted idle, walk and search time and increasing operator productivity. The Shuttle VLM enhances product protection & inventory control since all material is stored safely on steel trays and away from any potential contact. Each operator or manager can determine each tray level of fragileness based on the SKU's it stores and discretely set the speed to accommodate them.
Since material is stored in one system, all items can be monitored by a PC or color touch screen controls using software such as FastPic's inventory management software or Cribmaster tool room and dispensing software.
Discrete and variable tray speeds reduce capital acquisition costs since fragile and sensitive items can be stored in one system, the need for additional systems/areas can be eliminated. These savings would include the costs of purchasing the storage equipment (shelving, rack, dedicated automated systems, etc.) plus the associated floor space and the costs associated with floor space (maintenance, taxes, utilities, etc.)
