The Shuttle(TM) Vertical Lift Module (VLM) from KardexRemstar International Inc. offers improved inventory management and up to 85% space savings for storage and retrieval of tooling and fixtures.
The Shuttle VLM is an enclosed system of vertically arranged trays, an ergonomically designed extraction platform and computerized controls. It delivers stored materials to the operator at an ergonomically correct height, about waist level, for removal without bending, squatting or climbing. An optional wheeled cart that docks to the Shuttle VLM's extraction platform allows heavy trays of tools to be easily transported to several workstations in a cellular manufacturing or assembly setup.
Storage trays can be compartmentalized with partitions and divider systems for storage of smaller cutting tools. Frame and divider systems can be installed to increase the wall heights of trays for larger, heavier tooling and fixtures. The Shuttle VLM can store up to 550/1100/2200 pounds per tray with a total maximum payload of 44,000/66,000/88,000 pounds. Stored items are completely encased within the Shuttle VLM for maximum protection and security. Advanced software provides full access control over operator usage for accurate tooling inventory management.

The modular design of the Shuttle VLM allows it to be configured to meet varying shop ceiling heights. Depending on useable interior heights, 85 percent and more of a conventional storage system's occupied floor space can be recovered. Its small footprint and standalone design make the Shuttle VLM especially suitable for point-of-use tooling and fixture storage near machine tools or manufacturing cells, allowing more floor space to be used in value-added operations such as machining and assembly. Several Shuttle VLMs can be placed side-by-side or back-to-back to form a compact, efficient automated storage and retrieval cluster for tool room applications or as tooling storage satellites on the shop floor. Individual Shuttle VLMs can be moved as necessary to meet changing storage and production requirements.
KardexRemstar's CubeStar(TM) technology combines hardware and controls to give the Shuttle VLM up to 50 percent more storage capacity than conventional vertical lift modules. An automatic optimizing program keeps space usage maximized by continually tracking each tray's height, and, as heights change, finding better positioning in the unit. The Controls 2000 controls package allows users to customize the operation of the Shuttle VLM on the fly quickly and easily.
The Shuttle VLM offers several options to meet specific shop tooling storage needs, including extra-wide trays and lift truck access to stored pallets.
With KardexRemstar's Quick Ship Program, standard Shuttle VLMs can be pre-tested and shipped and installed within two weeks or less.
