LEED- Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) is a rating system for green building design that was developed by the
United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The USGBC created the LEED program
to reduce the negative effects of the built environment in the community, while
also improving the overall quality of life for the people within the building.
The USGBC provides third party verification of sustainable design, awarding
points in six different categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy
& atmosphere, materials & resource, indoor environmental quality, innovation in
design and regional priority.

Why Think Sustainable In Your Building Design/Redesign? The business case
for sustainable building design is found in the three cornerstones of
sustainablity: environmental stewardship, social responsibility and economic
prosperity.
Also known as the Triple Bottom Line, implementing these into a facility can
increase performance, improve ergonomics and increase productivity; all working
toward a sustainable building design. Find the benefits of the
Triple Bottom Line in PEP=S (Performance + Ergonomics + Productivity =
Sustainability)
